Breast Augmentation

Augmentation mammaplasty or breast enlargement is a solution for a woman who, for personal reasons, feels her breasts are too small. It can be used also to restore loss of breast volume after pregnancy, when the breasts are a little sagging. When the sagging is worse and the excess skin is too much, it is better to consider remodelling of the breasts and then augmentation.

To increase the size we use French made silicon implants (Sebbin) or the implants with textured surface filled with the gel (Polytech, Silimed).
The silicon implants have been used for a very long time already and no negative effects on the body or promotion of any disease have been found. However, it is a foreign material to our body, and so we cannot exclude that the material may be rejected by the organism.

The surgery is performed under a general anaesthetic and it requires 2 to 3 days stay in hospital. The size of the implants, their position and conducting of the incision will be determined after detailed consultation with the surgeon.

The incision (about 5 cm long) can be placed in the armpit (this is the most common location now), under the breast, or in the areola. The implants are placed under the mammary gland or under the pectoral muscle – this will ensure the breasts slow arching in their upper part.

The convalescence is gradual. It is important to fix the implant by supporting bra and breast belt immediately after the surgery to avoid changing the position of the implant. The size of the implant is highly individual, most common volume is about 250 ml.

The possible complications include haematoma, infection or implant exsertion. Their occurrence may be minimised by the maximum effort, precautions, and cooperation between the patient and the surgeon.

This procedure is now very popular among both young women and middle aged ones. The results are usually very satisfying.
