A technique developed for dealing with the hair loss, especially in man, is hair transplant surgery using the mini and micro grafts. This technique enables to thicken the thinning hair or in several stages restore the hair growth completely. The surgeon uses the hair grafts from the scruff. Mini grafts consist of 3 to 8 hair follicles and micro grafts consist of 1 to 2 hair follicles. These grafts are then put into previously prepared punctures. The grafts have to be placed in a certain distance a therefore the second session is recommended. Only part of these planted hair continues to grow, most of them will fall out and then a new hair will grow there. This process lasts several months.
The operation is performed under a local anaesthetic or under a general anaesthetic (if the patient wishes so). It is usually very long procedure lasting several hours. The treated area will most likely swell.
The procedure’s efficacy is usually around 80 % of implanted grafts.
The patient has to have the bandage for 2 to 5 days depending on the surgeon’s decision. The swelling disappears in a few days. The patient has to stay in hospital for a short time and the convalescence is also very fast. The hair can be washed with shampoo after 7 days and cut after 14 days from the procedure.
